Free Arts Minnesota’s “Through My Lens” Summer of Photography

Partnership between Free Arts, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and Wing Young Huie

This summer Free Arts Minnesota and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) are partnering to provide 65 teens a hands-on photography series led by Twin Cities photographer Wing Young Huie. This eight-week program will include a trip to the MIA and photography workshops with Wing Young Huie, where teens will learn about the photographic process as well as the elements of composition and editing.

“Through My Lens” will give teens who have experienced poverty, abuse, homelessness or mental illness an opportunity to share their perspectives on community with a public audience through the medium of photography. Using Huie’s signature chalkboard interview method, both photographers and the subjects they photograph will be able to express themselves creatively. The final photographs will be displayed in an exhibit at the MIA, and a public reception will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014. To RSVP for the exhibit and reception, please email or call Molly: or 612.824.2787.
