Free Arts Minnesota brings creative expression, encouragement and positive mentorship to thousands of young people. We know, both anecdotally and from research, that spending time with adults who care makes a world of difference in a young person’s life. Giving youth the opportunity to create art can help them process their feelings, deal with tough situations, AND provide the catalyst to help begin a new chapter in their own life story: We believe this is a story focused on hope, perseverance and compassion. It is grounded in self-betterment, resilience, community engagement and artistic skill building.

We are inspired by the many hours that over 300 mentors commit to sharing their stories and their talents with the youth Free Arts Minnesota serves. We are both inspired and heartened by the stories over 3,300 youth share about their hopes and dreams via artistic mediums including paint, paper, clay, photography and spoken and written word. We are grateful for the financial support of over 600 donors. We know many of you have personal stories that drive you to ensure that our youth have the ability to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment with caring adults who help them share their feelings and ideas through the creative process.

Free Arts has been inspiring hope and building self-esteem with youth experiencing poverty, homelessness, abuse and mental illness since 1995. We are about to celebrate 20 years of service in our community. ART HEALS is our story and the youth we serve have many more untold stories to share.
