WELCOMEMentor Thoughts (Projects!)As the smell of chestnuts roasting on an open fire has all but left the air, I find reprieve from the harsh Minnesota winter in taking time to fuel my creative side. This year, I have been spending time searching for fun projects to bring to my mentorship group. I would love to share some of the projects I have come across, so come along on my mid-winter journey in search of the elusive perfect project! This site has a lot of really neat projects using stuff you can find in your recycling bin at home. Ever thought of making a mosaic out of cut-up magazine pages? Check it out here. How about custom envelopes made from magazine pages? That one’s here. How about a tambourine using bottle caps and some sticks? Here are some resources for leading a poetry project. If you’re working with teens who want to do some creative writing, you may find this article helpful. How about using our abundance of snow and some food coloring to make a fun project for the little ones? This project is all about collaborative art and could prove to be interesting for just about any age group. You can even decorate gloves to make staying warm a lot more fun. Another great way to find projects that your group will enjoy is to simply ask the kids. We had abrainstorming session at our first meeting back with the kids and now have a great list of projects that they have a stake in. I think this session is going to be filled with fantastic creative projects that I can’t wait to hear about. If you have some great project ideas you want to share, email them to me and I will get the good word out! Jim Moen Mentor Workshop Series
