"The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves." ~Helen Keller

Mentor Thoughts

Here are a few pictures of the Valentine's Day project we did with our group at St. Joe's. Dan came up with an excellent idea. He got the names of nursing home residents who did not have families and asked the kids to help make valentines for them.

V-Day Card

The group really responded well to the project. They got the idea right away, and the messages on the cards reveal compassion they felt when reading the cards. The card pictured above reads,"Dear Liz, Hope you have a great day. Hope you find someone to love you."

In my own life, I've always found that I feel better about my situation when I'm helping others. This project was a good example of that. The entire group pitched in enthusiastically and the results were very positive.

Thanks,

COLORING OUTSIDE THE LINES: RECAP

Sam, David & Anne

Two weeks ago, mentors became mentees as Liz Greenbaum presented on process driven art. This was the first workshop in our new Mentorship Appreciation Workshop Series. After the lecture we got our hands dirty and people came up with some really cool projects with a limited amount of supplies. To check out some of the curriculum developed for this workshop, click here.

MeTRO MURALS

Metro Murals

We’re taking art to the streets again! Our theme for the 2010 Metro Murals project is “Healthy Families”. We believe that creating art together is one of the many ways to keep your family healthy. During the month of April, youth murals will be displayed at 15 bus shelters across the Twin Cities to raise awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month and encourage people to make healthy choices as a family.

We need your help! We’re recruiting 10-15 mentors to help us guide both youth and families in the mural-making process. Please join us at Mary’s Place on Thursday, March 4th from 4:30 – 8 p.m. to take part in the creation of inspirational murals.

Already hooked? Email Krissy to RSVP for this event. We will send out additional information via email soon.
