You are committed, caring individual with a strong interest in healing young lives through artistic expression and at least 18 years of age.

the volunteer Process

  1. Complete the volunteer application online.
  2. Request three personal/professional references. It's easy! Just send them a link to our reference form.
  3. Complete a background check (required by Free Arts and Free Arts partner facilities)
  4. Complete an interview with a Free Arts staff member and determine which facility will best suit your needs.
  5. Attend a volunteer training. A large group training takes place in September each year, and smaller group trainings are held periodically throughout the program year (Oct. - May).
  6. Share your creative abilities and compassion with children and parents on a regular basis.
  7. Build trust with the children by arriving at the same time, on the same day promptly each week.
  8. Attend free volunteer workshops. Workshops and sessions are not mandatory but are strongly encouraged.
  9. Complete online weekly surveys when you are the project leader.

Time Commitment

Free Arts volunteers work in teams of 4 to 6 people. Each volunteer in the Weekly Mentorship Program commits to 1.5 hours on-site each week and approximately 1 hour preparation each week. The Weekly Mentorship takes place in two sessions: October through December and January through May.
