Max's mom had done this before. The 8-year-old was used to being locked out of his house. But after waiting outside in the cold winter air for hours, Max finally had to break into his home. He stayed inside for five days without heat or electricity, waiting for his mom to return. She never came.
It was in that first night at the emergency shelter that Max was introduced to Free Arts Minnesota. The project the volunteers gave Max took his mind off his mother’s return. Three years later, Max's mom still hasn’t returned. But each week, he still receives consistent caring attention from the mentors at Free Arts Minnesota.
