Physical abuse at the hands of his parents had become routine for 6-year-old Brandon. For his safety, he had been removed from his parents’ care. But this was only the beginning of the young boy’s difficulties. Over the next two years, he bounced from one foster home to another; he lived in a total of six homes in just a two-year period. Chaos was the only consistent part of Brandon’s life.
That was until he was received Free Arts Minnesota programming in a residential treatment center. There he was regularly encouraged to express his feelings through art. Finally, Brandon was ready to try a new foster home, his seventh. The adjustment to his new home, siblings and school was made easier by the fact that he was still able to participate in Free Arts Minnesota, the one positive constant in his young life.
