Years volunteering with Free Arts: Three
I volunteer with Free Arts because... it allows me to use my life and love of art to inspire and give meaning to another.
My all-time favorite project was... our team had a local musician come to our mentorship session to make guitars out of shoeboxes and rubber bands and then he played/sang for the kids.
My most memorable moment in Weekly Mentorship has been... one of the kids who has been at the shelter for a few years always said he hated art and the volunteers and never wanted anything to do with us. At our last art session this year, he came into the art room with a smile on his face. He came and tugged on my shirt and said he had a present for me. I turned around to face him and he handed me a sheet. On it he had drawn out my name in a graffiti style. He then gave me the biggest, longest hug i have ever had and said in a quiet voice, "Thank you."
