Myth

Reality

“Most of the donations made to small non-profit organizations just goes to overhead.” Actually, Free Arts operates with a lean budget. In 2008, seven paid Free Arts staff recruited and trained 350 volunteers to serve 2,082 children. There are still over 5,000 children in need of Free Arts services in Minnesota.
“Lots of people donate to Free Arts Minnesota. They don’t need any more money from me.” Nearly half of our annual budget comes from individual donations. Every gift at every dollar amount makes a difference.
“I can’t afford to give a lot – my gift won’t really make a difference.” All gifts – large and small – contribute to our ability to serve at-risk children in Minnesota. Just $25 will provide a child with one-on-one mentorship for a week.
“Art is fun and all, but I want my money to serve children in a more meaningful way.” While expression through art is important and fun, art is really the activity that provides the outlet for mentors to connect with at-risk children to form trusting relationships and build self-esteem.

“Hope Necklace”

Hope Necklace Free Arts embraces our partnerships with our local artists.  Yen-Ying Chee is a jewlery and Interior designer that has recently partnered with Free Arts and our goal of reaching out to kids that are vulernable and to give hope for a brighter future.

Yen has dedicated her life to giving back to the community and with Free Arts she found that it touched her personally.  She understands that not every child has the opportunity to know the meaning of “hope” in the way that she did .  The definition of hope is “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.”

With that thought in mind, Yen has desinged the “Hope Necklace.” With the purchace of every necklace, Yen will donate $50 to Free Arts.  Her hope is that these contributions made through the pruchaces of this necklace with help provide these children the hope that they can achieve anything their hearts deisre.
