2011 Art Heals! Breakfast

Kat and Marques

Thanks to everyone who attended our 10th annual Art Heals! Breakfast. We had a great event, which included hearing from one of our Free Arts weekly mentors and youth about the impact Free Arts has had in their lives. We also heard from Sue Abderholden, the executive director of NAMI Minnesota, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We viewed a video interviewing some of the children we help, produced by Colle+McVoy and had the pleasure of hearing singer/songwriter Chastity Brown perform a song with children from Northside Child Development Center. A summary of the event, with pictures, can be seen here.

As an addition to this year’s event we asked several local designers to donate their time and talent to create limited edition posters for Free Arts – inspired by the healing power of art. If you would like to purchase a poster please visit our purchases page! There are only 25 of each version, so get them while you can! Thank you to Mike Caguin and Lindsey Aho at Colle+McVoy, Daniel Jenstad and Jacob Anderson at Space150, Adam Puncochar at Meet Joyce, Ellie Drotning at OLSON Advertising, and Mike Perushek (3 E Design Inc) for your designs!

An additional thank you to all of our sponsors that helped make the event possible.

We are still in the midst of recruiting volunteers for our Weekly Mentorship Program. If you want to help bring the healing powers of artistic expression into the lives of abused, neglected, and at-risk children and their families, contact us today! The commitment is just an hour a week. You’ll work with a team of 4-5 volunteers and as a team take turns planning and leading art projects, using projects provided by Free Arts Minnesota staff, or by developing your own. Activities may include visual arts, dance, movement, drama, music, photography, sculpture, creative writing or other art mediums that you wish to try. You do not need an art background, degree or even skill! The kids you’ll work with through our programming just need your time. Contact Rebecca for more details or go to the "Volunteer" page on our website.
