FREE ARTS ENEWSLETTER August 2011

Looking back at 2010

Free Arts Minnesota Annual Report

Thanks to your help and support Free Arts Minnesota brought the healing power of art and mentoring to 2,000 children last year.  We added new volunteers, new board members and new facility partners. We continued to strengthen current relationships while reinforcing the success of our programming. Please watch our progress in 2011 and continue to help us achieve our goal to bring 2,000 more children the healing powers of art and mentoring!

Please take a moment to read through our 2010 Annual Report. We’ve included a letter from Executive Director, Dan Thomas and Board President, Kim Witczak, details of where Free Arts is headed and an explanation of our “Twice the Healing Campaign,” our community impact, quotes from facility partners and Free Arts kids, program highlights, financial summaries, and donor and volunteer recognition. We really appreciate everything that you do for our organization and want you to know we wouldn’t have made 2010 what it was without you. Here’s to continuing the healing power of art in 2011!

Art Incognito

Art Incognito

Free Arts Minnesota presents the 2nd Annual Art Incognito. Please join us Thursday, September 15 from 6-10pm for a night of elusive elegance for an “Art Craving Crowd.” All proceeds from this event go towards Free Arts Minnesota to help bring the healing power of artistic expression into the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children and their families.

At the event we will also be raffling off an amazing vacation opportunity to Santa Fe, New Mexico (Donated by Kris/Bob Barrie). Enjoy a four-day, three-night stay at an authentic adobe residence. A short walk from the art galleries and restaurants of Canyon Road and amile from the central Plaza, this 80-year-old adobe was recently renovated.

Special thank you to our sponsors: RBC Wealth Management at the Gold level and The Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank, Twin Cities Orthodontic Associates, Hennes Art, Amy Zaroff Events + Design and Franklin Press Inc. at the Silver level.

Be the Change: Mentor

Mentorship Through Arts

We’re excited to announce that Free Arts Minnesota will be featured during KARE-11’s piece, “Be the Change: Mentor,” scheduled to air in two weeks. This hour-long special will focus on different types of youth mentoring programs around the state.

Mark your calendars and watch from 7-8pm, Tuesday, September 13, to see the healing effects of art and understand the importance of mentorship in kids’ lives. A phone bank will also be taking calls during the program so you can sign up to be an inspiring mentor or learn more information on the many mentoring programs Minnesota has to offer.

Calling all Mentors

Art Heals

We are still in the midst of recruiting volunteers for our Fall Weekly Mentorship Program. If you want to help bring the healing powers of artistic expression into the lives of abused, neglected, and at-risk children and their families, contact us today! The commitment is just an hour a week. You’ll work with a team of 4-5 volunteers and as a team take turns planning and leading art projects, using projects provided by Free Arts Minnesota staff, or by developing your own. Activities may include visual arts, dance, movement, drama, music, photography, sculpture, creative writing or other art mediums that you wish to try. You do not need an art background, degree or even skill! The kids you’ll work with through our programming just need your time. Contact Rebecca for more details or go to the "Volunteer" page on our website.
